Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, Fremont Factory Engineering
What to Expect Tesla is seeking an innovative Senior Mechanical
Design Engineer to join our Construction Design team in Fremont,
CA. The mechanical design team is responsible to create a
mechanical, plumbing, and process distribution system to support
the main factory infrastructure and tool equipment. This position
is for a full-time, on-site. What You'll Do
- Works with a wide range of mechanical, and plumbing systems but
not limited to HVAC, heat exchangers, heaters, humidifiers,
dehumidifiers, dust collectors exhaust, cooling towers, chillers,
fans/pumps, domestic water, sanitary drain, etc.
- Prepare/review conceptual and full detail Construction drawings
including but not limited to:
- Equipment, piping, and system selection.
- Cooling and heating load calculations
- Pressure drop calculation and
- P&IDs
- 3D pipe design and/or Piping ISO drawings
- The sequence of operations/control philosophy
- Responsible for designing/reviewing mechanical engineering
deliverables with respect to building code, CMC, CPC, and Title 24
compliance and ensuring every design maintains the highest level of
quality.
- Participate in on-field construction and commissioning
activities by serving as the point of contact for technical
questions and real-time issue resolution.
- Interface with external EPC firms during the bid and project
execution phase, as needed, to ensure that design and
specifications meet our Engineering Standards.
- Review conceptual designs from developing Engineers and
identify technical and financial risks. Suggesting alternative
solutions which mitigate risks is imperative.
- Develop and improve project workflows and standards to ensure
each design is consistently excellent. What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent
discipline
- 8+ years of work experience in HVAC and Plumbing design. A
combination of experience with an owner-operator and an
Engineering/construction firm is highly desired.
- Promote and protect Tesla's reputation as a cutting-edge

- In depth knowledge of the California Energy Code, Mechanical,
Plumbing, and Fire Protection Codes, NFPA standards, SMACNA duct
construction standards, ACGIH Ventilation guidelines. and ASHRAE 62
and 90.1, California Building Energy Efficiency Standards Title 24,
and local/national building codes.
- Proficient in the use of the following applications: Trane 700
or Carrier HAP, Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Working knowledge of the following types of calculations: duct
static pressure drops, pump head, fuel gas pipe sizing, steam, and
