What we do:

Supernal is looking for a BMS Test and Validation Engineer who will focus on BMS HW and SW/FW test strategy and actual verification and validation of full BMS to be used in our Energy Storage System (ESS). This role will be responsible for collecting requirements, developing test architecture and infrastructure. They will also be responsible for BMS validation tests. This position will work with other HW / SW / Cell Engineers on the Battery team and other cross-functional team members to develop test requirements, share test results, and release designs successfully.

What you can do:

  • Develop high-level and detailed level BMS HW/ SW Test environment & architecture
  • Develop System level test strategy, Test cases and Test plan to cover system verification and then validating the BMS for functional and certification requirements per standards and aircraft level requirements
  • Influence decisions from battery system architects & designers from DFT perspective and test coverage perspective
  • Contribute to test equipment selection, implementation of verification & validation test processes
  • Test case automation and development of test tools required for BMS testing
  • Work with HW and manufacturing teams on HW testing, validation, and factory build support
  • Develop HIL test system and integration with Simulink environment, Test Cases development, System brings up and trouble shooting
  • Use HIL system and verify BMS HW, SW and Algorithms at system level
  • Develop Test scripts for HW testers used in Environmental, EMI/EMC, Safety and Regression tests of ESS or Modules
  • Test BMS HW for complex HW/FW interlaced tests to support BMS EE design Engineers
  • May require up to 10% of domestic and international travels
  • Other duties as assigned What you can contribute:
    • BS Degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering with software engineering focus
    • Minimum 5 years' experience in mixed signal and power electronics product testing in aerospace or automotive industry (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for this role)
    • 3+ years experience with HV battery testing and validation in automotive or the consumer aerospace industry
    • Demonstrated Battery Verification & validation experience used in HV Lithium batteries or larger format batteries
    • Excellent understanding of functional safety critical testing
    • Expert level experience in specifying, installing, and efficiently using test infrastructure and HIL system for functional verification of HW/FW/SW/Algorithms used in BMS and battery systems
    • Excellent programming skills in C, C , MATLAB, Simulink, and scripting tools like Python
    • Good understanding of communication buses like SPI, Ethernet, and CAN
    • Knowledge of interfacing HIL system with Simulink based battery models and Realtime RT or NI Test stand-based environments
    • Highly motivated and has strong proficiency towards detailed and highly rigorous test processes with "how to break" mentality
    • Understanding of safety critical component testing requirements like margin testing, testing for reliability, etc.
    • Ability to develop collaborative networks among peers / x- functional teams quickly
    • Understanding of DO-178C compliance for SW development is a plus
    • Excellent skills required in technical communication, and reliance on data for issue resolution and decision making
    • Proactive delivery of communication and follow-up
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Self-motivated and forward-thinking personality
