The Role: Tesla is currently hiring a Recycling Associate to support our Bay Area R&D sites located in Palo Alto, San Mateo, Sunnyvale, and Fremont. This role will report to the Staff Janitorial Project Manager and will be a part of a lean but mighty Workplace team. This individual will be driven to succeed and will be responsible for assisting in day-to-day operations mainly at our Palo Alto sites. This will include organizing and preparing recycle materials for transport, moving various materials and containers throughout the facility, collecting recyclables and coordinating logistics on materials' end destination. Depending on qualifications and business need, the recycling associate may be assigned to a driving role, sorting role or combination thereof. Must be able to perform wide array of essential functions across a number of warehouse, office, and lab work areas, and as business needs are required. Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * A strong commitment to adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines, including but not limited to completing training, adehereing to safety rules and wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as safety shoes, safety glasses, safety vest, gloves, and bump cap. * Report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to Supervisor or area lead. * Report any equipment damages or repairs needed to repair shop and Supervisor or area lead. * Escalate any urgent recycling production issues or URGENT requests to Supervisor or area lead. * Respond to specific service requests as assigned by Supervisor. * Ensure all employee uniform and personal appearance is clean and professional, maintain confidentiality of proprietary information, and protect company assets. * Develop and maintain positive working relationships with team members and other departments to reach common goals. * Sorting recyclable commodities into separate categories (e.g. wood, plastic, foam, etc.) and placing them in the correct designated containers * Conveyance of packaged material, scrap and parts * Assembly, disassembly and breakdown of crates, containers, and cardboard * Manually sorting and baling plastic, styrofoam, cardboard, and refuse * Preparing materials for transport by palletizing, wrapping, loading, and moving * Ensuring that material is safely and securely packaged for shipment, or storage * Haul pallets, cardboard, plastic and trash via forklift and tugger throughout the site * Pick up commodities from designated route locations at designated frequency and deliver to the designated drop off locations * Loads and unloads packages onto or from delivery vehicles, balers, trailers, pallets, conveyor system carts and load gratings * Manage space optimization within the work area and keep clean * If assigned to a driving role, perform daily safety/functionality check list of mobile vehicles/equipment and cleaning of mobile vehicles/equipment * Misc. material handling activities as needed * Ability to use or learn modern technology, laptops, scanners, RFID, etc. * Punctuality and a professional, can-do attitude are a must * Ability to work independently and part of a team and keep on task in a fast-paced environment * Possesses a "get it done" attitude and an urgency to resolve problems/tasks * Strong attention to detail * Ability to operate safety sensitive and heavy equipment such as, but not limited to, forklifts, tuggers, pallet jacks, flatbed carts, and balers * Adherance to policies, rules, and direction Work Environment / Essential Physical Demands * Probable weekend work and overtime required. * Ability to frequently and repetitively push and lift up to 65 lbs. * Ability to frequently and repetitively push and pull up to 40 lbs. * Ability to frequently and repetitively reach, bend, lift, carry, and place items of varying size and weight, including overhead * Must be able to reach, squat, and twist frequently and repetitively * Standing, walking up to 12 hours/day, including over varied and uneven terrain * Must be able to handle, grip, grasp and grab small parts frequently and repetitively * Potential exposure to dusty conditions, high and sudden noise environments, outside weather in all conditions, and some chemicals used in the manufacturing and process Experience and Qualifications * Previous warehouse and material handling experience preferred (3+ years) within a warehouse, production, manufacturing, or comparable environment * High School diploma or equivalent, or evidence of exceptional ability * Must have command of the English language, both written and verbal * Must be at least 18 years of age * For driving assignments, a valid U.S. driver's license and acceptable driving record (subject to review) * For driving assignments, robust forklift driving experience and acceptable safety record - current forklift certification strongly preferred * All potential employees will be required to successfully pass a pre-employment screening, background check, and pre-employment physical.
