Boehringer Ingelheim Fremont is the rapidly growing US arm of Boehringer Ingelheim’s Biologics Business Unit. We are a fully integrated biologics operation with over 500 scientist and specialists, covering cutting edge early- to late stage CMC development, clinical and commercial drug substance and drug product manufacturing, medical device assembly for combination products and packaging operations.   

We are continuing our rapid growth, investing over  $200m into the expansion of our capacity and capabilities, and creating approximately 200 new jobs.  

Driving this growth is an exciting pipeline of multiple Boehringer Ingelheim novel biologic entities (NBEs) and biosimilars, as well as, a growing diverse portfolio of therapeutics we develop and manufacture for other leading pharma and biotech companies. This includes multiple commercial product launches planned over the next couple of  years, for which we can tap into Boehringer Ingelheim’s unique experience of having brought 30+ biologics to market globally.

Description\:

 

Identifies and manages asset reliability risks that could adversely affect plant or business operations, including loss elimination, risk management an life cycle asset management (LCAM).

 

Leads efforts to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities, controls and safety/security systems, and applies value analysis to repair/replace, repair/redesign and make/buy decisions. Develops engineering solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations, including capacity, quality, cost or regulatory compliance issues.

Duties & Responsibilities\:

  • Reliability Projects and Capital Expenditure\:
    • Develops, plans and implements reliability-based projects and solutions, including determination and delivery on cost, time and quality. In doing so, ensures sustained production, successful product launches and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensures effective maintenance and availability of manufacturing equipment, by\:
    • Identifying and managing production equipment issues.
    • Using and sharing reliability technical knowledge for troubleshooting, investigations and training.
    • Managing the reliability tactical implementation plan for reliability improvement projects.
    • Providing management with KPIs on reliability program effectiveness.
  • Optimization and compliance\:
    • Ensures overall equipment effectiveness.
    • Creates, modifies, and maintains reliability program and documentation, including asset on-boarding specification documents and SOPs.
    • Leads BPE/MPE activities to ensure a continuous optimization process.
  • Supports definition and implementation of best practice of reliability strategy program, through the Global Engineering Network for automation and standardization; participates in peer reviews.
  • If required, contributes BI's knowledge to national and international standard committees to represent biopharmaceutical interests and progress.
  • The job holder has a matrix team when acting as project manager for investment projects.
  • Represents reliability engineering in compliance audits.

 

Requirements\:

  • Bachelors in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant reliability engineering, maintenance strategies or operations experience within a GMP environment required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience leading projects required.
  • Experience managing risk to achieve an organization’s strategic objectives in the areas of environmental health and safety, asset capability, quality and production.
  • Experience with tools used by a reliability engineer to identify and reduce risk including PHA (Preliminary hazards analysis), FMEA (Failure modes and effects analysis), CA (Criticality analysis), SFMEA (Simplified failure modes and effects analysis), MNA (Maintenance Needs Assessment), MI (Maintainability information), FTA (Fault tree analysis), and ETA (Event tree analysis).
  • Good knowledge and skills in biopharmaceutical and Reliability Engineering.
  • Good understanding of legal and regulatory aspects within biopharmaceutical business and EHS.
  • Good knowledge and skills in engineering of production systems.
  • Open customer focused communication.
  • Strategic thinking, economic orientation and business competence in planning and realization of investment projects.
  • Manage, lead and motivate interdisciplinary project teams by means of technical competence, interpersonal sensitivity and conflict management skills.
  • Performance/target oriented, persistent, analytical, open minded, and innovative/creative.

 

Desired Experience, Skills, and Abilities\:

  • At least one (1) year of recent automation experience highly desired.
  • Experience working on technical projects with an interdisciplinary project team from planning to realization and start up highly desired.
  • Experience leading projects within a biopharmaceutical business highly desired.

 

Eligibility Requirements\:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
