Role

Tesla is seeking an Emergency Management Specialist to join our team in North America. This position will be located in Fremont, California. Under the general supervision of the Program Manager, the Emergency Management Specialist is responsible for preparing and maintaining the emergency plans for Tesla properties in and around Fremont, increasing employee resiliency through education and outreach efforts, managing the regional emergency operations center, facilitating exercises, trainings and after action reviews, and contributing to general situational awareness regarding regional risks and hazards and their impacts. They will help ensure compliance to federal, state, and local health and safety regulations and execute their duties in accordance with best practices for emergency preparedness professionals. The Emergency Management Specialist will also support special events and comprehensive response and recovery efforts at other locations as directed.

The Emergency Management Specialist must work well on projects and tasks both proactively and as part of continuous improvement planning efforts. The candidate takes pride in their relationship building and teamwork approach, customer service skills, analytical abilities, organizational skills, and attention to detail. A successful candidate will have prior experience in an emergency preparedness capacity in the utilities or manufacturing industry or can demonstrate applicability of skills developed in other critical infrastructure sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize emergency preparedness activities and establish risk tolerance by conducting hazard analysis surveys and risk assessments for their assigned areas
  • Improve employee resiliency through education and outreach programming tailored to the risks and hazards of their assigned region and business lines
  • Facilitate emergency planning efforts for the assigned region, including developing and maintaining the factory plan and reviewing plans from area retail, warehouse or datacenter locations in partnership with their leadership
  • Develop, deliver, evaluate and improve training and exercises, including seminars, workshops, tabletops, games, drills and functional exercises, that test Tesla's plans and develop core capabilities among participants
  • Activate, staff, maintain and manage the regional emergency operation center to ensure unified response, transparent information sharing, prioritize resource requests, track expenditures, document actions, assist leadership in decision making, and support incident command system (ICS) activations
  • Coordinate after action reviews following exercises and emergencies to identify successes and opportunities and develop and track improvement action plans that increase core capabilities
  • Participate in recovery and business continuity efforts during and after major emergencies to minimize impacts to the Tesla business while increasing the rate of return for impacted employees
  • Partner with the Emergency Management Risk Operations Center to monitor for situational awareness regarding regional risks, threats, or hazards and the impacts of those events on personnel and property
  • Partner with other internal departments to build a holistic, comprehensive emergency preparedness program through relationship building, networking, and collaboration
  • Represent Tesla to local emergency preparedness programs to enhance response and recovery capabilities and improve resource availability from outside agencies

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in emergency management or a related field (such as public administration, public safety, business administration, etc.) and 3 years work experience OR 6 years equivalent work experience in an emergency management position or business continuity position.
  • Successful completion of the FEMA Professional Development Series plus ICS 100, ICS 200, IS 700, IS 800, and IS 2200
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines, maintain composure under pressure, and facilitate meetings with diverse stakeholders under stressful conditions
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills including the ability to present training and education materials effectively and to interact professionally in-person and via remote technology (Zoom, Teams, WebEx, etc.)
  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Power Point, Project, Teams, SharePoint, Word, etc.)
  • Available to participate in an on-call rotation with other specialists and support occasional evenings and weekends as needed
  • Occasional travel to collaborate with other Tesla team members and to support their assigned region
  • Strong preference for candidates with experience in corporate emergency preparedness, business continuity, or crisis management
  • Preferred completion of ICS 300 or ICS 400
  • Preferred Associate Certified Emergency Manager and/or demonstration of professional contributions to the field and ability to obtain ACEM within six months
