Boehringer Ingelheim Fremont is the rapidly growing US arm of Boehringer Ingelheim's Biologics Business Unit. We are a fully integrated biologics operation with over 500 scientist and specialists, covering cutting edge early- to late stage CMC development, clinical and commercial drug substance and drug product manufacturing, medical device assembly for combination products and packaging operations.

We are continuing our rapid growth, investing over $200m into the expansion of our capacity and capabilities, and creating approximately 200 new jobs.

Driving this growth is an exciting pipeline of multiple Boehringer Ingelheim novel biologic entities (NBEs) and biosimilars, as well as, a growing diverse portfolio of therapeutics we develop and manufacture for other leading pharma and biotech companies. This includes multiple commercial product launches planned over the next couple of years, for which we can tap into Boehringer Ingelheim's unique experience of having brought 30 biologics to market globally.

Description:

Member of functional area team. Frequently executes and analyzes routine experiments with minimal oversight. Occasionally executes complex experiments in team setting with daily interaction with team. Analysis of complex experiments done in conjunction with team or supervisor. Has discretion in tactical execution of experiments and analysis. Represents work at lab group meetings, and functional area meetings. Will occasionally present at conferences

This position will be responsible for supporting other scientists and make improvements in equipment, software, and workflow to assist planning, executing, developing and improving various processes within one Process Science department. The position will apply a scientific background and expertise in one area of Process Science, protein science to design, perform, analyze and document experiments. This position focuses on providing data to other scientists, interpreting data to develop solutions and produce drug substance under GMP/GLP conditions to for toxicology and clinical studies.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support and assist development of saleable purification processes
  • Perform comprehensive data analysis of process statistics, identify process deviations, prepare technical reports and propose process solutions and improvements.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities in order to gain an understanding of standards of practice, process science and departmental policies.

  • Identify, propose, and execute process and procedural changes to improve process performance, robustness, productivity and efficiency.
  • Assist in project planning and team optimization, including evaluation of equipment and implementation of appropriate modifications and staff training to ensure employee safety and ensuring schedules of process equipment used in process science labs are maintained.
  • Efficient, lean & reliable execution and compliant documentation of cGMP manufacturing, with high quality at a low cost.
  • May interface with partner organizations both inside and outside of Process Sciences. May drive SOP/BPR generation & review and RM qualification.
  • Ensure compliance with cGMP guidelines, quality policies, directives and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Masters' degree in Biology and/or Bachelor's degree in Biopharmaceuticals plus two (2) to four (4) years' experience required/
  • Statistical analysis skills.
  • Operational Excellence.
  • Six Sigma experiences will be plus.
  • Technical knowledge in process science area.
  • GMP clinical manufacturing.

Desired Experience, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience/Expertise in a scientific discipline (chemical/biochemical engineering, biopharmaceuticals, biotechnology, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology)

Eligibility Requirements:

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)

Must be 18 years of age or older
