POSITION SUMMARY As an Electrical Engineer, you will have the opportunity to design and build some of the most advanced devices in the world. Each project is unique, but it could be anything from a miniature implantable neurostimulator to a wrist-worn heart monitor. Sometimes we explore a single part of the device (e.g. optimize antenna design) and other times we build a complete device with design controls ready for mass manufacturing. You will take on technical design and development simultaneously across a few projects gaining technical expertise in a variety of areas. The role requires someone that wants hands-on experience. We are looking for independent self-starters to provide our clients the best possible experience. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Work in a small team to design and develop bioelectronics, neuromodulation, and wearable devices Define new product system architecture such as sensor inputs, motor controller, communication interfaces, computer control and user interface.
Perform electrical design from concept to prototype to final product: model and implement circuit design, layout boards and test performance of circuits.
Develop computer system and microcontroller design requirements. Piece together or edit existing firmware to rapidly prototype devices.
Assemble and/or rework prototype devices by swapping components (0402) or hacking traces.
Provide EE support for product design transfer to manufacturing including prototype and test fixture building, failure and root cause analysis of electrical sub-systems and components.
Prepare documentation release packages, including detail drawings, bills of material, and/or procedures. Approve Document Change Orders (DCOs) and obtain approvals from others as required.
Use in-house capabilities or find third parties for any manufacturing or testing Work closely with clients and project managers to ensure projects are on track Lead customer specific team meetings.
Complete accurate daily timecard Perform other activities as directed. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY None REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Minimum 3 years of medical device product design and development experience is required, bioelectronic experience desired Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering is desired (specialty can be electrical, computer engineering or similar) Capable of working within a quality system and design controls (experience in such an environment is a plus) Familiar with tools specific to your expertise (e.g. Altium for EE, SPICE tools) Depth of knowledge in bioelectronics, neuromodulation or wearables is an asset Able to work simultaneously and efficiently on multiple projects Enjoys doing hands-on work with high-tech machinery Clear communicator with both the internal team and the clients Flexibility, persistence, passion, resourcefulness, a drive to succeed, and an entrepreneurial spirit CORE COMPETENCIES Communication Skills All verbal and written communications are concise, technically accurate, timely, and professional. WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS Must be able to move throughout office and laboratory space, using a complete variety of office equipment and laboratory machinery, and tools. May lift up to 30 pounds and stand for extended periods of time.
