Position Description Ideal Candidate Statement Ohlone College seeks to employ faculty members who have a passion for teaching and learning and a strong commitment to the missions and ideals of the community college. Position PLEASE NOTE Ohlone College is seeking a pool of qualified applicants for temporary part-time teaching assignments. These positions are filled on an as-needed basis and are on-going recruitments. Assignments may include day, evening and weekend courses and may be in-person, online or hybrid. As staffing needs arise, our Division Deans will review the part-time faculty pools and contact applicants for interviews. There are times that part-time faculty are needed to fill last minute vacancies; therefore, departments are better able to communicate their teaching needs at the time of interviews. Applicants must meet the minimum academic requirements listed in order to be considered for the pool of qualified candidates. Applicants that meet the minimum requirements are not automatically accepted to teach at Ohlone. As this application is for a pool of applicants, it may take time before you are contacted. Under the direction of the Dean or Associate Dean of Deaf Studies Division, a part-time faculty position is to teach the Deaf Preparatory Program, ASL/DEAF STUDIES, DEAF Education, or Interpreter Preparation Program courses. Duties other than teaching responsibilities such as assessing the course Students Learning Outcomes (SLO Assessment); supporting and working on the program review and program improvement objectives (PIOs); participating in the program/department and the division s meetings and activities such as Welcome Day or IPP screening day. This position will maintain standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the position. This position may require assignments in the evenings and/or weekends and/or at off-campus locations. The Deaf Studies Division is made up of the following departments and programs: American Sign Language (ASL) Counseling for Deaf Studies Deaf Education (DEAF) Deaf Preparatory Program (DPP) Gallaudet University Regional Center West (GURC) Interpreter Preparation Program (IPP) For more information on the Deaf Studies Division, please visit Duties and Responsibilities Teach and Assess students. Desirable Qualifications KNOWLEDGE: American Sign Language and sign vocabulary used in an educational setting. Appropriate use of written English including spelling, vocabulary and grammar. Deafness and its effect on language development in deaf and hard of hearing individuals. Cross-cultural communication. American with Disabilities Act. Sign or Oral and written communication skills. Principles and practices of supervision and training. Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. ABILITY TO: Provide expressive and receptive interpretation and transliteration in American Sign Language. Communicate effectively both in ASL and in English verbal and writing. Interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationship with others. Operate a computer and assigned classroom, office and lab equipment. Meet schedules and time lines. Work independently with little direction. Plan and organize work. Maintain records and files. Prepare comprehensive narrative and statistical reports. Teaching experience at the community college level desired but not required.
