What to Expect As Tesla expands in product lineup and ramps vehicle production across the globe, complexity will grow with manufacturing. The Factory Firmware Team (FFT) is looking for a Software Design Engineer to ensure manufacturing is being set up for success and bringing innovative solutions to solve these challenges.
This engineer will be supporting vehicle firmware and take part in designing, scaling, and improving vehicle testing architecture, factory core services & deployments, diagnostics, validation, and develop automation to support all factories. In this role, you will need to be in tune with operational metrics and partner closely with the local FFT teams to "unlock" pain points. Additionally, the engineer will be working directly with hardware design & firmware developers to bridge the gaps between development to manufacturing integration. You will be delivering robust solutions that can be seamlessly integrated into any of Tesla's vehicle factories and platforms. What You'll Do

• Build software tools to standardize and streamline vehicle firmware releases, making change control less tedious yet more robust -
• Design the next generation of vehicle diagnostics to quickly highlight quality issues in plain English (non-technical jargon)
• Part-take in the bring up of new vehicle factories and support existing vehicle platforms -
• Lead core software service deployments working with each factory to ensure seamless integration -
• Participate early in new vehicle programs to ensure manufacturability & work with the local integration leads
• Working in tandem with the firmware development & validation teams (Bay Area) on factory-facing features, high priority issues impacting manufacturing, and improving manufacturing testing/unit tests -
• Hands-on with the engineering fleet to test new hardware & firmware configurations -
• Develop automated platforms that can support all regional variants and can be leveraged by all factory firmware teams -
• Bridge the gap between engineering & manufacturing What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor degree or equivalent in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or related fields with evidence of exceptional ability
  • Strong scripting skills in at least one common language (Python, Ruby, etc.) -
  • Strong experience collaborating with colleagues and communicating complex technical concepts to others of varied technical background -
  • Must be detail oriented with an ability to think creatively and produce "outside of the box" solutions -
  • Exceptional ability to keep multiple projects moving forward at aggressive paces -
  • Self-sufficient with the ability to work and project manage tasks independently
  • Strong communication skills & able to work across language barriers / cultures -
  • Must value quality and be data driven -Nice to Haves
    • Experience with circuit design and basic hardware prototyping -
    • Experience testing and validating embedded software in electro-mechanical systems -
