Job Description:
Description POSITION SUMMARY: As directed by a Registered Nurse,
the ED Technician completes tasks that support the care of patients
presenting to Emergency Services. Responsibilities include but are
not limited to transporting patients, providing general basic
patient care, answering call bells, and assisting patients with
non-nursing functions. Must be able to perform jobs in all patient
care and operational areas subject to reasonable accommodations,
also be able to employ all mandatory safety devices and procedures.
Also, must participate in the Respiratory Protection Program, which
may include the wearing of a respirator. This is a union position.
See Essential Job Functions. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Education:
High School graduate or equivalent, Certified graduate of an
Emergency Medical Technician Training School, or equivalent
Experience: Previous emergency department experience, hospital
experience or ambulance experience. Licenses/Certificates: Current
BLS Certification (upon hire/transfer or within 30 days of
hire/transfer date) Arrhythmia Recognition - proof of current
competency within 1 year. Current California EMT Certification
required. Registered with California Emergency Medical Services
Authority ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Transports patients to and
from clinical, ancillary and support department areas as directed,
ensuring patient’s safety and comfort. 2. Assists patients
requiring help with ambulation. 3. Provides general basic patient
care, such as positioning patients, lifting and turning, assisting
in the use of bedpan, commode, urinal or bathroom, and weighting.
4. Places patients on cardiac monitor, applying proper placement of
leads, and applies O2 monitor. 5. Splints patient’s limbs. 6.
Answers call bells or uses intercom to determine patient needs,
advises nurse of patient needs beyond scope of position. 7. Washes
and cleans gurneys as needed and cleans rooms after patients are
discharged. Keeps rooms clean and in order at all times. 8. Assist
patients to dress and undress. Bags and labels the patient’s
belongings. 9. Restocks linen and supplies to the exam rooms,
restocks IV trays, and keeps the unit clean. 10. Answers telephone
and places telephone calls as directed. 11. Provides 1: 1
observation for confused or psychiatric patients. 12. Performs
routine, uncomplicated treatment procedures including application
of hot and cold, holding limbs for splinting, wound cleansing,
taking vital signs including orthostatic vital signs and
temperatures. 13. Performs EKGs. 14. Sets up for suturing and
procedures using sterile technique. Dismantles procedure set,
caring for soiled instruments safety and correctly. 15. Ability to
work accurately and in an organizational fashion in a high paced,
often stressful environment. 16. Self-directed with full
recognition of limitation of the role. 17. Ability to rapidly
respond to ever changing workload related to patient census and
crises. 18. Ability to chart patient assessment findings as
determined within scope of practice in patient’s chart (EMR). 19.
Takes vital signs and documents in the Electronic Medical Chart
(pulse check). 20. Ability to cover desk and relieve the clerk,
order test in Pulse Check and GUI. 21. After completion of class,
able to obtain and document Point of Care test: ? HCG – Urine
Pregnancy ? U.A. – Urine dip ? FSBS – Finger Stick Blood Sugar 22.
After completion of class perform: ? BAT – Blood Alcohol Testing ?
UDS – Urine Drug Screen testing (as needed) 23. Prepares patient
for discharge and assists with crutch walking instructions. 24.
Applies simple dressing as instructed by the RN. 1 - FTE 0.9 (3 x
